Motherhood is a bliss. But, unfortunately these days Pregnancy related medical problems are on the rise. Infertility is common amongst most women aged between 15 to 44.It may occur in both women as well as men.
It is essential to understand the major causes of infertility and its possible treatment:-
1.Blocked fallopian tubes
If the fallopian tubes are blocked or damaged, infertility occurs due to the tubal factor. This accounts for about 30% percent of infertility. Tubal factor infertility can be caused by a previous pelvic infection or STD etc.
It is important to make sure that the tubes are open, otherwise there is no way for sperm and egg to communicate. Possible solutions could be surgery to open the tubes. If surgery fails, or if the tubes are too damaged to repair, they may be removed before going for IVF in order to improve your chances of pregnancy.
Fibroids are non-cancerous masses located in the uterus or cervix. Its impact on fertility depends upon their size and location.
While surgery may not always be necessary.Though there is a small risk that the uterus may have to be removed in some cases which might involve surgery.
Another cause of infertility could be Endometriosis(A condition in which tissue that resembles the lining of the uterus is found outside ). If a woman experience complications in conceiving naturally, endometriosis might be the reason behind it. Possible symptoms could be painful periods, heavy bleeding or unusual spotting as well as general pelvic pain.
Inorder to improve the chances of natural conception, Laparoscopy Surgery to remove endometrial tissue is very effective.
4. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition in which small follicles in the ovaries do not grow into the mature follicles that release eggs. It is also characterized by hormone imbalances and unpredictable ovulation patterns.
In few cases, women who have PCOS, might have inflated ovaries that contain multiple small cysts. With PCOS, the ovaries secrete large amounts of testosterone which interferes with ovulation leading to infertility issues. Excessive hair growth, acne, and obesity etc are some of the symptoms of PCOS.
Lifestyle modification, ovarian drilling; a surgical procedure that can trigger ovulation can help increase the chances of fertility. In women with glucose intolerance, the diabetes drug can also help restore regular ovulation.
5.Irregular cycles and Ovulation problems
Irregular menstrual cycles might also affect ovulation.Managing body weight if it’s too low or too high, taking fertility drugs can reduce the problem.
6.Male Factor Infertility
Male factor infertility is responsible for up to 30% of infertility cases. Infertility in men is usually due to a medical problem called varicocele. It is swelling of the veins within the loose bag of skin that holds the testicles (scrotum). This is a common cause of low sperm production and decreased sperm quality which results in infertility.
